1. Application in nonferrous metal smelting industry

Depending on its good characteristics, silicon carbide can be used as indirect heating material for high temperature, such as hard pouring distillation furnace, distillation furnace tray, aluminum electrolytic cell, copper melting furnace lining, arc plate for zinc powder furnace, thermocouple protection tube, etc.

2. Application in iron and steel industry

Silicon carbide has the characteristics of corrosion resistance, thermal shock resistance, wear resistance and good heat conduction. Depending on these characteristics, silicon carbide can be used for lining of large blast furnace to improve the service life.

Silicon carbide has characteristics of good thermal conductivity, thermal radiation, and high thermal strength. Depending on these characteristics, silicon carbide can be used to manufacture thin plate kiln furniture, which can not only reduce the capacity of kiln furniture, but also improve the installed capacity and product quality of the kiln and shorten the production cycle. 3. Application of metallurgical beneficiation industry

The hardness of silicon carbide is second only to that of diamond. The bonding mode and application of several common silicon carbide refractories

Different kinds of silicon carbide refractories are made by combining silicon carbide with different bonding phases. Common bonding forms include clay bonding, oxide bonding, mullite bonding, silicon nitride (Si3N4) bonding, recrystallization (R-SiC) and reaction sintering siliconizing. The properties of silicon carbide refractories depend on the bonding phase.

①Clay bonded silicon carbide products (Clay-SiC)

It is the most common silicon carbide refractory. It is made by mixing 10%~40% bonded clay and silicon carbide particles together, pressing or ramming them into shape, and then firing them in general kilns. Clay SiC is used for muffle plate of zinc smelting furnace and ceramic kiln.

②Oxide bonded silicon carbide products (SiO2-SiC)

SiO2 is used as the binding phase. It is made by mixing 5%~10% SiO2 fine powder or quartz fine powder with SiC particles, sometimes adding flux, pressing and shaping, and then firing in general kilns. It is characterized by that SiO2 film is wrapped on SiC particles during firing and use, its oxidation resistance is much better than Clay SiC, and its high temperature strength is also very high. This product is widely used as the kiln shed plate for firing porcelain (>1300 ℃), and its service life is more than double that of Clay SiC. Oxide Bonded Silicon Carbide, developed for exceptional wear and corrosion resistance.

It exhibits outstanding thermal shock and abrasion resistance coupled with excellent non-wetting characteristics for nonferrous metallurgical applications.

③Mullite bonded silicon carbide products (Mullite-SiC)

Take α- Al2O3 micro powder and SiO2 micro powder are added to the SiC ingredients and pressed into shape. During the sintering process, Al2O3 and SiO2 combine to form mullite; During use, SiO2 formed by oxidation of SiC also partially forms mullite with Al2O3. This material has good thermal shock stability and is widely used to make sagger and shed plate for porcelain. 

④Silicon nitride bonded silicon carbide products (Si3N4-SiC)

The metal silicon powder and SiC sand are batched together. After molding, they are fired under nitrogen protection. Si reacts with N2 to form Si3N4, which combines SiC. This material is widely used to make silicon carbide bricks for blast furnace, refractory kiln furniture, etc.
